The climate of Brazil: when to go to Brazil

This post is also available in: Deutsch 日本語

Brazil in terms of climate falls entirely within the tropical climate. Despite this, the country has some important differences between the various regions. This happens because of its extension from north to south, which varies between 5 degrees north and 34 degrees south. In fact, the Brazilian climate is characterized by 6 large climatic regions: the equatorial, the tropical, the high tropical lands, the semi-arid, the sub-tropical and the temperate-subtropical.

The equatorial humid climate is what characterizes the Amazon region, while the areas immediately south of the Amazon have a sub-equatorial climate, the rest of Brazil has a tropical climate with two distinct seasons, with more or less intense rainfall, the Brazil’s southernmost territory, on the other hand, has a subtropical temperate climate.

The dry season, which is absent in the Amazon, in the territories south of the Amazon River becomes evident, and in some areas of the country it lasts up to six months.

In general, rainfall occurs mainly during the southern summer, from November to March, with average rainfall between 1,000 and 2,000 mm, although in some areas of the Northeast, the average rainfall drops to about 500 mm per year.
