Algeria climate: when to go to Algeria

Algeria has a climate that varies considerably from north to south, the coastal area has Mediterranean climate, while the highlands south of the coast have hot summers and cold winters with low rainfall, major are the changes between day and night temperatures. Further south lies the Sahara desert with differences in temperature between day and night even more extreme.

Northern Algeria has a temperate climate, which varies at altitude, the coast has a pleasant Mediterranean climate with warm and dry summers and mild and rainy winters, with average maximum winter temperatures of 15°C and average minimum winter of 9°C, while in summer the average maximum temperatures are 28°C and average minimum temperature of 21°C.

Rainfall is fairly abundant, it vary depending on the areas between 1,000 mm of the eastern areas (Grand Kabylia, Little Kabylia and Djebel Edough) and 400 mm of western areas (Plain of Chelif, Aures and Amour mountains). In the spring months, particularly in April, sometimes blows from the desert a warm wind, the sirocco carrying from the desert large amounts of sand, causing intense storms of sand and a sharp rise in temperature.
