The climate of Pernambuco: when to go to Pernambuco

This post is also available in: Deutsch

The state of Pernambuco is formed by a long and narrow strip of territory that enters the interior of northeastern Brazil, its conformation means that the climate of the state varies considerably based on the distance from the sea and altitude.

Along the coast the climate of Pernambuco is tropical humid with abundant rains and stable temperatures in every period of the year, the rains are more abundant between March and August, while between September and February there is a reduction in rainfall. In the city of Recife there are over 2,400 mm of rainfall per year.

Inland areas tend to have a less rainy and drier climate, with two clearly defined seasons: a dry season and a rainy season.

In the area of the Sertão Pernambucano, which includes more than half of the territory of the state, the climate is semi-desert, here the duration of the rainy season is significantly reduced, the rainy months are those between March and June, drought is common in dry months between July and February.

The average rainfall is not too low, it varies between 600 mm and 800 mm, but they fall almost exclusively in the four months of the rainy season. In the highest areas of the plateau, thanks to the altitude, the climate is characterized by hot days and cool nights.

Temperatures vary according to height, along the coast they are stable with average maximum temperatures varying between 30 ° C and 27 ° C throughout the year, the average minimum temperatures remain between 23 ° C and 21 ° C throughout the year. Inland temperatures are a few degrees higher, but are often moderated by altitude.
