Shark snorkeling in Yasawa Islands, Fiji

The seas surrounding Fiji are rich in fish and underwater life. The coral reefs of these islands are among the most unspoiled and rich in life on the planet. Fiji is known for snorkeling with manta rays and sharks. At the top of the food chain there are undoubtedly sharks, fish that always inspire fear and awe.

If you visit Fiji and want to have an adrenaline contact with sharks, the place to visit is the island of Kuata, the southernmost of the Yasawa islands. For the guests of the island it is possible to practice snorkeling with reef sharks and scuba diving with ocean sharks. For those who do not stay on the island, tours are organized daily from Port Denarau that allow you to have one of these two experiences.

SWIM WITH SHARKS AT FIJI ISLANDS

If you opt for the most adrenaline diving with ocean sharks you will have the opportunity to swim in close contact with large ocean sharks. These sharks reach 3 meters in length, such as bull sharks (Carcharhinus leucas), tiger sharks (Galeocerdo cuvier), great hammerhead sharks (Sphyrna mokarran), lemon sharks (Negaprion brevirostris), silvertip sharks (Carcharhinus albimarginatus), and also reef sharks (blacktip reef shark and whitetip reef shark). The place where this dive is made is the open ocean along the western coast of the island of Kuata.

If instead you want a softer, but always electrifying and spectacular experience you can decide to snorkel with sharks. In this case you will be transported south-east of the island to a point where the coral reef emerges at a third of the distance that separates Kuata from the island of Vomo. Here it will be possible to observe docile blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus) and whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus). They are sharks that reach a maximum length of 1.80 meters. Whitetip reef sharks are more common and are curious by nature so they sometimes approach out of curiosity. While blacktip reef sharks are shy and tend to move away if they feel insecure. Shark snorkeling is an experience that even children can enjoy. Each participant will be equipped with a floating jacket, fins and mask with snorkel.
