TONGA: DOCUMENTS

All visitors to the Tonga Islands must have a passport valid for at least 6 months after the scheduled return date. For citizens of most countries of the world a visa is not necessary if you are staying for less than 30 days.

TONGA: HEALTH INSURANCE, TRAVEL INSURANCE AND MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

The Tonga Islands have limited hospital equipment, with hospitals in Nuku’alofa, Ha’apai and Vava’u. For more serious problems you will need to move to New Zealand. For the tourist, it is highly recommended to take out a medical insurance that covers all health costs and also allows the repatriation of the patient in urgent cases.

An international driving license is required for driving in the Tonga Islands. Driving is on the left. The use of seat belts, a child seat and a helmet for motorcyclists are mandatory. Strongly recommended insurance for damage to the rented car. The speed limits are 40 km / h in urban areas and 65 km / h in suburban areas.

The Tonga Islands have two mobile operators: Tonga Communications Corporation TONGA and Digicel. Digicel operates on a GSM (900MHz) mobile network system, Tonga Communications Corporation operates on a GSM (900MHz) mobile network system.

Internet is available in the islands. Most hotels offer free WIFI to their guests.

Currency: Pa’anga (TOP).

Banks in the Tonga Islands are open Monday to Friday from 9.00 to 16.00. ATMs (ATMs) are common in Nuku’alofa, less frequent in other islands. Credit cards are accepted in the most important hotels, restaurants and supermarkets, Visa and Mastercard are the most common.
