PORTUGAL DOCUMENTS

Documents: For entry into Portugal citizens of the European Union must have a personal identity card valid for expatriation or a personal passport. Even children and minors must have their personal expatriation documents (Identity Card or passport). Citizens of other countries outside the European Union must present their passport. Citizens of some countries may be required to apply for a visa.

Driving license: To drive a rental car or your own car in Portugal, you must have your own national driving license.

Car insurance: European insurance is valid for driving in Portugal with your car.

PORTUGAL HEALTH INSURANCE, TRAVEL INSURANCE, AND MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

Healthcare: Hospital medical care in Portugal is good across the country. European citizens can receive the necessary medical care provided by the local Portuguese public health care if they have the European Health Insurance Card. For the tourist it is advisable, as in any trip abroad, additional travel and health insurance.

PORTUGAL MOBILE PHONES AND INTERNET

Telephones: International dialing code to call Portugal: 00351.

Mobile Phones: The standard mobile phone network in Portugal is GSM 900/1800. The three mobile network service providers have international roaming agreements with most international mobile phone companies and provide users with good coverage nationwide.

Mobile operators: MEO, Vodafone and Optimus.

Internet: Most hotels have free internet access. There are many internet cafes in the country. In addition, the Netpost service is available in Portuguese post offices. Finally, there are more and more free WIFI internet points. They are present in many tourist locations.

Electricity: The electric current is 230 volts, 50Hz.

Power outlets: European standard power plugs and sockets are used in Portugal, i.e. type C and F. These power plugs and sockets are the same as those used in continental Europe.

PORTUGAL CURRENCY AND BANKS

Banks and Currency: The official currency of Portugal is the euro.

Money can be exchanged in banks, exchange offices and ATMs.

Portugal has a national network of ATMs identified with the MB (Multibanco) symbol. You can withdraw cash 24 hours a day from these ATMs.

The most used credit cards in Portugal are Visa, American Express, Diners Club, Europay / Mastercard, JCB and Maestro credit cards.

Bank Opening Hours: Banks in Portugal are open from 8.30 to 15 five working days a week. While they are closed on Saturdays.
