Salzburg is from a tourist point of view dominated by the presence of the city of Mozart, Salzburg, the capital and its main tourist destination. But the Salzburg region is full of wonderful things to see. Among these there are numerous natural attractions, some of which are protected by national parks, such as that of the Hohe Tauern (Nationalpark Hohe Tauern), or by natural parks such as those of Buchberg, of Riedingtal in Zederhaus, and of Weißbach bei Lofer.
AMONG THE THINGS TO SEE IN THIS REGION THERE ARE A MIX OF HISTORICAL CENTERS AND NATURE
There is also a section of the Salzkammergut, a fairytale territory made up of lakes, rivers and mountains, which extends east of Salzburg, along the border with Upper Austria and Styria. This territory for its beauty has been included by UNESCO in the world heritage list.
Salzburger Land is one of the main Austrian tourist destinations. This is due to the treasures and beauties of the city of Salzburg, the city of Mozart and of music, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But another reason for a trip to this part of Austria are also the many and evocative natural landscapes of the region. This area is in fact dotted with lakes, caves (such as the ice caves of Eisriesenwelt), waterfalls (such as the spectacular Krimml waterfalls) and mountains.
Other attractions for tourists visiting Salzburg are the interesting small historic centers such as those of Hallein and Radstadt. Finally, another strong point are the countless summer and winter sports resorts. Among the latter we can mention Bad Gastein, Zell am See, Bad Hofgastein, Sankt Gilgen am Wolfgangsee, Sankt Johann im Pongau.
The region is also crossed by some suggestive tourist itineraries such as those of the Romantic Road (Romantikstraße) and the beautiful Alpine panoramic road of the Grossglockner-Hochalpenstrasse (Großglockner-Hochalpenstraße). This last itinerary crosses the Hohe Tauern mountain range reaching up to 2,506 meters in height, and offering, in its path, panoramas and views of a breathtaking natural landscape.
