Carinthia is one of the main tourist destinations in Austria, thanks to the mild climate and the beauty of its landscapes, there are numerous things to see in Carinthia. To the west of the state capital Klagenfurt lies a beautiful region full of mountains and lakes. Among the most beautiful lakes of this region of Austria we can mention the Wörthersee, the Ossiacher See, the Millstätter See, and the Weissensee.
AMONG THE THINGS TO SEE IN CARINTHIA, NATURE IS THE MASTER
The main tourist attraction of the region are the natural destinations. Carinthia has a great variety of landscapes, all of which are very beautiful. To give an idea of the natural wonders of this area of Austria we can say that we pass from valleys full of flowers such as the Lavanttal, to areas with a myriad of alpine lakes, up to the majestic alpine peaks, such as the Großglockner (3,798 meters ), the highest mountain in Austria.
In Carinthia there are two national parks, the Hohe Tauern National Park (Nationalpark Hohe Tauern), which also includes areas of Tyrol and Salzburg, and the Nockberge National Park (Nationalpark Nockberge), entirely included in the territory of the region. There are also two Nature Parks: Dobratsch and Weissensee. There are also many ski resorts. Among the best known we find Nassfeld (Pramollo) in the Carnic Alps; Bad Kleinkirchheim, in the Gurktal Alps; Flattach and Heiligenblut in the Hohe Tauern.
Among the main artistic attractions we can mention the two major cities of the region, Klagenfurt and Villach, and the historic towns of Friesach, Sankt Veit an der Glan, and Gmünd, as well as the castles of Burg Hochosterwitz, and Porcia in Spittal an der Drau, and the numerous Romanesque and Gothic churches and abbeys such as those of Gurk, Maria Saal, Sankt Paul im Lavanttal, Ossiach, Millstatt, Thörl-Maglern, and Viktring.
