Grenoble, the ancient capital of the Dauphiné, a city with over two thousand years of history, is the second most important city in the Rhône-Alpes region, located between Lyon and Turin, not far from the border with Italy and the Alps. The city is located in a valley along the Isère and Drac rivers at about 200 meters above sea level. The history of Grenoble began about 2,000 years ago when from a small Gaul village it became a Roman city with the name of Gratianopolis. Grenoble reached the height of its power in the Middle Ages, particularly in the 11th century, when the city became the capital of the Dauphiné. Today Grenoble is an important university city that is lively and full of life. The symbol of the city is the famous cable car that takes you from the city center to the Bastille viewpoint. Among the main attractions of the city we also find some important museums, the most interesting of which is the Museum of Grenoble (Musée de Grenoble) an art museum that collects works by Italian, Spanish and French artists, including Taddeo di Bartolo, Veronese, Zurbaran, and numerous impressionist artists.
GRENOBLE CHRISTMAS MARKET
1) Grenoble Christmas Market (Marché de Noël) which usually takes place in the squares Victor Hugo, Grenette, Felix Poulat. The Grenoble Christmas market is made up of over 100 wooden chalets that display handicrafts, sweets, Christmas decorations, toys, tableware, perfumes. During Christmas, Grenoble is illuminated for the holidays, with its historic center sparkling with Christmas lights and festoons, where you can taste the typical dishes and culinary specialties of the region and taste the foie gras and mulled wine. Advent events are usually completed by fireworks, musical performances, and activities designed exclusively for children: Santa Claus’s chalet, the automatons’ chalet, Santa’s mailbox.
