Dijon Christmas Market

Dijon is the historic capital of Burgundy, the city was founded by the Romans with the name of Divio, and was located along the road that connected Lyon to Paris and Mainz. The city together with the duchy of Burgundy reached its maximum splendor between the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, becoming one of the major centers of European art, from this period there are remarkable examples of medieval and Renaissance architecture, such as the palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, the Gothic cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Bénigne) and the beautiful 13th-century Gothic church of Notre-Dame. The city also has interesting museums such as the Museum of Fine Arts (Musée des Beaux-Arts), one of the most important in France when it comes to painting. Dijon, located in a flat area at the foot of the Cote d’Or hills, hosts a lovely market during Christmas. The Dijon Christmas Market is the most popular and important event in the city during the Christmas holidays.
